"Mezuzah" - a Jewish doorpost that contained a piece of parchment inscribed with specified Hebrew verses from the Torah.
Gary Baseman's latest exhibition, " The Door Is Always Open", at the Skirbal Cultural Center, explores the influences of Baseman's Jewish family heritage and pop culture. Opening April 25th 2013 through August 18th 2013. The evening "House Party" will kick off with a DJ set by Shepard Fairey, and then Nightmare and the Cat will play live in the Skirball's central courtyard.
This is the first major museum exhibition of the artist, illustrator, animator and toy designer. The exhibition will be filled with artwork from Baseman's universe reflecting his childhood home in the Fairfax district, filled with furniture and memorabilia from his personal collection.
