My Chemical Romance and MouseKat ;)

If you are a fan of EMO!....

We just wrapped up some on the fly Mousekat making with Jed Carter (La Bande Wagon) and awesome sculptor David Zadjman. Again, pulled off in just a few days, Pretty In Plastic cast some 50 pieces for the CD release party of 'Danger Days' from My Chemical Romance.

My Chemical Romance turns the page with 'Danger Days'

The band emerges from a dark period (including a scrapped record) with a danceable album inspired by frontman Gerard Way's comic-book ideas.

November 21, 2010|By Geoff Boucher, Los Angeles Times
High in his ridgeline home, sitting on a porch that feels like a ledge, Gerard Way peered through cigarette smoke and the late-afternoon Pasadena haze as he searched his memory for the moment when his band, My Chemical Romance, shed its skin. "I think," he said with a world-weary chuckle, "the liberating moment is when we decided that we were allowed to make a dance record."

and... Bite Me - Music and Fashion:

(Reprise)

The most anticipated rock album of the year is not a title easily won, but it appears that My Chemical Romance has won that title – their only job now is to live up to it. We all knew My Chemical Romance as the emo band that released ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ and wore tons of makeup, but forget that image. My Chemical Romance’s album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, is set to be released on November 22nd and has got every fan and music critic waiting impatiently for its release.

And after 30 hours of MouseKat casting... I drove home past this... like a mirage...

ARBITO - Moon PSNAIL - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL for DesignerCon 2010
ARBITO's - Moon PSNAIL - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $125
A psychedelic intergalactic space explosion – Arbito’s Moon PSNAIL is a sight to behold. With a skittle toned shell and black and white body, this little PSNAIL is one mighty fine moon walker. Signed on the base, Arbito’s Moon PSNAIL is priced at $125.
Castleforte's - Lions and Tigers and Snails, Oh My! - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $100
Castleforte's - Lions and Tigers and Snails, Oh My! - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $100
All of the technicolor Munchkins in Oz couldn’t compare to the glistening verdant glow of this Emerald City PSNAIL. Castleforte’s Lions and Tigers and Snails, Oh My! PSNAIL has all of the glitz of Glenda wrapped up in the shell of the Wicked Witch. But on this Yellow Brick Road, slow and steady wins the pace and Castleforte’s PSNAIL finds there really is no place like home. Castleforte’s Lions and Tigers and Snails, Oh My! PSNAIL is priced at $100.
John Crowe's - Black Widow with Ground Effects - 3" Custom PSNAIL - $60
John Crowe's - Black Widow with Ground Effects - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $60
Dark and mysterious, the poison dart antennae of John Crowe’s Black Widow with Ground Effects shows the darker side of PSNAIL’s trip down the rabbit hole. Jet black with a iridescent skin, this PSNAIL is proudly displaying it’s other-worldly hue in full euphoric Neon fashion. Signed on the base, John Crowe’s Black Widow with Ground Effects is priced at $60.

Julie West's - Custom PSNAIL - 3" Resin Figure for DesignerCon 2010 - $300
Julie West's - Custom PSNAIL - 3" Resin Figure for DesignerCon 2010 - $300
A bit of sunshine and sparkle, Julie West’s Custom PSNAIL is the dandy of the group! Prim and proper, this sassy girl with curlicue arms shows the early stages of PSNAIL’s obsession with logarithmic spirals. Julie’s details are impeccable – we are still marveling at the tiny brushstrokes she perfected! Signed on the base, Julie West’s Custom PSNAIL is priced at $300.

Le Merde's - Le Sluggo - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $150
Le Merde's - Le Sluggo - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $150
Great glimmering slimy madness, Le Merde’s Le Sluggo joins the Le Merde family of French characters with proper personal masculine pronouns. Beware, Le Sluggo’s viscous PSNAIL trail is known to be the source of potent psychoactive properties; a unique quality clearly envied but the rest of the mollusk kingdom. Le Merde has enhanced his painted resin PSNAIL with a hand-poured semi-transparent amethyst snail trail and a gloss coat smooth enough to speed this former snail to a rapid slugs pace! Signed on the base, Le Merde’s Le Sluggo is priced at $150.
Leecifer's - Satan's Slug, Slower than Hell - 3" Custom PSNAIL - $100
Leecifer's - Satan's Slug, Slower than Hell - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $100
Slow and steady, this Slug of a PSNAIL is serious as all Hell! Leecifer’s Satan’s Slug, Slower than Hell is the winged gastropod from the dark side. Probably best to stay on the good side of resinous beast, although with 4 googled eyes and a painted armor of brilliant spots and splashes it might be more fun to duel this slug in a do-or-die battle of salt grenades than to challenge him in a game of tag. Leecifer’s Satan’s Slug, Slower than Hell is priced at $100.

Mark Nagata's - Glitter PSNAIL - 3" Resin Figure for DesignerCon - $60
Mark Nagata's - Glitter PSNAIL - 3" Custom Resin Figure - $60
A candy coated palette of Glimmering Goodness, Mark Nagata’s Glitter PSNAIL leaves us a salivating mess of awe and overall jealousness. PSNAIL’s perfect rainbow gradient propels a metallic gleam that glistens from gold to raspberry. This time traveling mollusks adventure into the fungal jungle has left him aglitter. Signed on the base, Mark Nagata’s Glitter PSNAIL is priced at $60.

Reuben Rude's - Zombie PSNAIL - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $150
Reuben Rude's - Zombie PSNAIL - 3" Custom Resin PSNAIL - $150
A phantasm of psychotropic horror, Reuben Rude’s Zombie PSNAIL is hauntingly seductive. As the artist responsible for the visual creation of Circuitous PSNAIL, Reuben’s cranial ensconced Zombie Psnail shows the carnivorous side of the slow but steady Gastropod. Make no bones about it, this PSNAIL has his eyes on you! Signed on the base, Reuben Rude’s Zombie PSNAIL is priced at $150.

Sanrio Small Gift in Los Angeles - Peekaboo Monster and Level Naturals

Sanrio Meets Fight Club in Peekaboo Monster's Installation for Small Gift

It was non-stop casting marathon and a glittery pink explosion in the Pretty In Plastic shop... (previous post - in progress photos)

Go check out the Kitty Fight Club in person:  Details at the end of article.

Below is the article from the LA Times Blog Today!

L.A.-based artist Peekaboo Monster has neighbors who make soap. He wanted to include soap in his work for Small Gift, Sanrio's 50th anniversary art show currently running at Santa Monica Barker Hangar. But how was he going to combine the two?

Fight Club, of course.
"Honestly, we were all just kind of hanging out one night and drinking and having fun and it just kind of clicked," he said at the November 11 opening party. "I was like, 'Let's tie it into a Fight Club theme. It will tie it in with the soap and we'll make the characters basically kind of being turned into the soap bars.'"
Plastered with posters that read "Sanrio 50th Club: Have you picked a character lately?", Peekaboo Monster's installation is as much a tribute to the gruesome world of Fight Club as it is to the cuteness of Sanrio.

"It was a fun idea," said Peekaboo Monster. "I like the movie. It was different from what Sanrio would normally do with their characters."

The installation features four portraits of Sanrio characters who remain easily recognizable despite their bruises and gashes. These paintings-- "Keroppi Hopi Dream," "Badtz Maru Crew," "Hello Kitty Splits What She Sees" and "A Pandapple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away"-- are inspired in part by another pop culture touchstone.
"The idea behind that was almost like Punch Out!!, after you play the game, the frame after the round of them being beat, I kind of wanted it to be like that," he explained.

There are also three resin sculptures in the installation, each one holding a bar of soap made by Peekaboo Monster and his friends from Level Naturals. The hot pink resin gore dripping off one Hello Kitty statue actually glows in the dark.
"It's the biggest sculpture I've done so far, so it was interesting to do one, let alone three of them," said Peekaboo Monster.

As for the soap, they're available for sale at the exhibition, separate from the art pieces as well.
