| Hidden adventures in this planetary usb star! |
We recently created some planets, with glowing usb flash drive stars found on the inside, for the movie The Little Prince which is currently in pre-production. The movie is "based on the classic children's novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and it tells the story of a pilot who crashes in the Sahara desert (as de Saint-Exupéry was and did in real life) and who meets a young Prince, who lives on an asteroid called B-612. The Prince is currently on Earth as part of a journey to travel the universe, meeting adults on different planets and hearing their stories. [The story] is famous for its deeply philosophical narrative and, since 1943, has become one of the best-selling books of all time."

Even better, the very talented Mark Osborne, has been hired to direct this magical movie! In 2008 Osborne was nominated for an Academy Award for the blockbuster animated feature Kung Fu Panda! Hiiiii Yaaaa!!! We loved working with him on this project and are looking forward to experiencing The Little Prince in 3D awesomeness!
Needless to say we have some pretty big expectations for this little prince!

We recently worked with NIADA artist, Reina Mia Brill, on her doll "Jari" (9"), which was the souvenir doll at the latest NIADA Conference in Denver.
In case you are not familiar with the artists' group NIADA, here is a little bit about them:
"NIADA - The National Institute of American Doll Artists is a worldwide organization of doll artists, supportive patrons, and friends whose purpose is to promote the art of the original handmade doll.
NIADA dolls are not copies of an old doll (although an artist may choose to caricature, spoof or make a social commentary on such a doll). It is not a conglomeration of limbs made from molds made by other artists; it is not a beautiful head placed on a stump of a body. It is a complete entity. It conveys a message, usually some facet of culture, which mirrors life and can be a record for future generations. NIADA dolls also depict the past, capture the present and, in many instances, interprets the artist's own version of [other] influences. Each artist has an individual style. Art is a subjective matter and [one] can be objective in evaluating art forms to a limited degree." - NIADA.org
We couldn't be more thrilled to have helped create a doll that is connected to such a fantastic organization, and we truly enjoyed working with Brill on her awesome creature, Jari! We just love what she does and we are sure you will too; check out her portfolio here and if you have any doubts just listen to what she has to say:
"I make creature sculptures that live in a children’s world. Part animal and part human, their lives are filled with mischief, insecurity, fears, and curiosity. Their story begins as a lump of clay which is slowly formed through my fingertips. After being bisque fired, colorful underglazes are painted on the surface. Once all the firing is finished, I pause, change pace and step back in time. Sitting down with my 1920’s and 1960’s knitting machines I decide how to transform the glazed surface with an unexpected texture, knitted wire. Colorful wire mesh is stretched and sewn over the hard clay surface for the actual skins and garments for the creatures. These old mechanical machines are truly precious. I love using them for a renewed purpose, which adds to the story and fabled world where my creatures reside." -Reina Mia Brill
Personally, I love imaging the "fabled world where [these] creatures reside"! Under my bed, perhaps!?!
Our favorite little bear, "Target" by Luke Chueh, produced by Munky King, and sculpted by Pretty In Plastic, has just got some color added to his palette! We are so excited to share the new photos and also extremely delighted with the final outcome.

Boy do we love Jellyfish! We love both the real-life jellyfish seen at the aquarium, and the fabricated jellyfish that we created in 2011 as part of a project with the Disney movie Oceans.

And did you know that "the jellyfish is one of the oldest living creatures in the world. Jellyfish have existed on the face of this planet for over 650 million years. They have existed since before the dinosaurs and have survived long after the dinosaurs and [all the while] millions of other species have gone extinct." -jellyfishfacts.net
It's kind of insane to think about how long jellyfish have been inhabiting the ocean, and even weirder to think that they remain so simple yet are so intricate! Of course their survival has been hugely dependent on their amazing and poisonous tentacles. "This defense mechanism is the primary reason for the distinct lack of jellyfish predators. Few marine creatures can escape the reach of the tentacles and even fewer can withstand the fiery venom in the tentacles of the jellyfish. There are however some animals who do prey on jellyfish. Some of the most common and important jellyfish predators include tuna, shark, [and] swordfish". -jellyfishfacts.net
I suppose it should also be noted that people can fall prey to the agonizing sting of the jellyfish; if you admit having been a victim of the jellyfish's "defense mechanism", you probably are not such a huge fan. With that being said, be careful out there, it's a dang dangerous planet!
Each of our jellyfish are more than five feet in length!

That’s Nathan Jurevicius (above) signing, numbering and drawing on 150 packages for his upcoming Vannen artist watch, Haven. I’ve seen a sneak peek of the watch, and it’s sure to find fans with those who follow the Twin Peaks mantra:
“The owls are not what they seem.”
For one lucky Jurevicius fan, Haven will also contain an original “golden ticket” illustration that entitles its finder to a one-off, bronze-toned resin Akis figure designed and signed by the artist and produced by my favorite fabbers, Cherry Vinyl (below). Vannen will release the watches on Friday, March 3oth, and you can grab one online one minute after midnight for $85 here. Further pictures to follow!
